Brainspotting

"Brainspotting is a powerful, focused, brain-based treatment method that identifies, processes, and releases core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and other challenging symptoms."

--David Grand, PhD

The motto of Brainspotting is, "Where you look affects how you feel." Our eyes and brains are intricately woven together, and sights seen from the eyes are deeply processed in the brain, which then reflexively and intuitively redirects where we look. Trauma can overwhelm the brain's processing capacity, leaving behind pieces of the trauma, frozen in a raw, unprocessed state. Brainspotting uses our field of vision to find the specific location where we hold these traumas in the subcortical brain. It then allows deep processing to release and resolve the trauma.

Brainspotting was developed out of EMDR, and is less therapist directed than EMDR, often with very little talking. It has been shown to be a highly effective tool especially for:

  • -Physical and Emotional Pain/Trauma
  • -Anxiety and Panic
  • -Phobias
  • -Anger and Rage Problems
  • -Stress and Trauma Related Medical Illness
  • -Sports Performance
  • -Creativity Enhancement
  • -Recovery from Injury or Accidents
